Personal Response
I believe there are numerous different reasons for why biodiversity is important. Firstly, what is the meaning of biodiversity? Biodiversity has to do with the number of species, plants, animals and microorganisms, the diversity of genes, the different ecosystems around the world. Firstly, biodiversity is very important because even though, there are small animals, they all play a role in the ecosystem which boosts ecosystem production. For example, large crop production would result in a large variety of crops or greater species would mean there is natural sustainability of all life forms. Biodiversity would also result in better recovery from natural disasters. Greater diversity provides many advantages especially in ecosystems. Firstly, biodiversity would provide the protection of water resources, soil formation and protection, and also nutrient recycling. With biodiversity there is also pollution breakdown and absorption which would contribute to a steadier climate. Clearly, there are numerous advantages of biodiversity which we use in our everyday lives. Each animal despite their size have an important role and without biodiversity, our Earth would not be able to function properly. Biodiversity provides humanity with the uses of food, medicine and pharmaceutical drugs, wood, diversity in genes and species. Humanity would be significantly pushed back without medicine not to mention food which is clearly a necessity in order to live. Biodiversity provides many natural services which in turn without diversity, humans would have to place. Some examples include things like worms and bacteria decomposing vegetation or for worms to produce nitrogen in soils. Even though, these little things may seem miniscule, they are very important for the balance of our ecosystems. We owe a lot of our technology right now because of biodiversity. Such medicines as penicillin, or painkillers would not be found without the help of natural organisms and in turn biodiversity. Clearly, there are several examples of how biodiversity is important for our Earth and how it helps humanity advance.
